WALK IN NATURE Whether it’s on the beach or in a park or forest, the natural light will keep your pineal gland balanced and your mood uplifted. Even if it’s raining – even take 10 minutes daily for a nature fix.

MEDITATE Research shows that meditation can keep emotions balanced, keep stress at bay and can bring a deep sense of joy. Just 5 minutes a day will make a difference – for some great techniques click here.

FEED SOMEONE In the East it’s said that the quickest way to heal is to nourish others with love. Try making someone a cup of tea and see your mood lift.

SURYA NAMASKAR One of the oldest exercise programmes on the planet, the Sun Salutation balances body, mind and soul.

LOOK AT A FLAME A real fire or candle flame keep light in the eyes and can be very uplifting in these winter months. The technique tratak is very powerful for lifting mood – it involves gazing at a single point of a candle flame and acknowledging thoughts but letting them go. It is best to practice before bed or first thing in the morning before anyone else is up.

B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga Wisdom and Practice – a wonderful combination of teachings from the great man himself and practical tips on creating a daily practice.
Asana, Pranayama, Mudra and Bandha – this book offers simple instructions on many of the key asanas. It is not as visual as many of the other books but I appreciate it’s straightforward advice and information.
Drops of Nectar by Shiva Rea – this relaxation CD has a wonderful Chandra sequence for honouring the full moon and a lush Yoga Nidra that seems to complement the introvertednes sof the winter months perfectly.
Yoga Planner 2010 – Linda Sparrowe has packed her annual yoga journal with weekly advice and inspiration. There is space to record notes about daily practice as well.
