MAKE Green Queen
Brighten up festival days, picnics and parties by making and wearing nature crowns. Make your children Kings and Queens and anything in-between of the countryside with hats woven from leaves, fern hats, and flower-strewn headbands. Weave your own from dandelions and daisies, or search for berries to make a gorgeous, juicy headpiece.

EVENT TV Eye
Alexandra Palace Park comes alive this Saturday at its annual fete. But this is no sedate village affair. Expect a silent disco in the woods, brass bands, live music performances from Jazzie B, buskers and local talent, craft and circus skills workshops, pilates classes, dementia-friendly ping pong, south east asian dance lessons and and appropriatly for the birthplace of modern television, innovative augmented reality versions of vintage technology. Mostly free, some events ticketed.

RECIPE and LEARN Tooty Fruity
Juicy blackberries are dangling from brambles. We’ve been picking and eating them on woodland walks. If you can keep from scoffing them all on the way home, there are a few interesting recipes floating around. We love the sound of The Guardian readers’ Black and red salad and Carrot, blackberry and walnut muffins with mascarpone frosting while this Blackberry Ginger Mint Mocktail makes our drink spidey sense tingle. Alternatively, use a glut to make some natural inks Find out more blackberry facts here

LEARN Block Party
Our Lego stash is huge, but sometimes we run dry on ideas. This Lego challenge calendar is a inspiration springboard – print it out and try a new task (such as build a robot, build something to go with a favourite book) every day. The same site also has some fantastic ideas for learning with Lego, including using it to teach coding, making sun prints with blocks, and creating volcanos. We’ve also been heartened by the news that Lego plan to phase out plastic based packaging and that their first range of pieces made from plant-based plastic will go on sale later this year

EVENT Global Underground
Join this Saturday’s carnival parade in Govanhill, Glasgow, the climax of the second yearly event. Launched last year to combat division and racism, the event is an 11-day extravaganza that celebrates the rich diversity of the area, home to people of over 40 nationalities. After the parade, take in brass bands, Afghan dancers, Taiko drummers, food from the Gurdwara and turban tying demonstrations. On Sunday, watch Afghan kites made by local children soar across the skies. Free. More here
