MAKE and DO Line Up
Sunny days are made for playing outside. Why not get your chalks out and play some pavement games? We love this outdoor, jump-around Simon game and and instruction-led obstacle course. Small kids will love the physicality of this nature hunt and there are lots more very sweet and simple games for toddlers here. Older kids can brush up on their graffiti skills without leaving a mark with home-made chalk spray

EVENT and DO Let it Glow
Have you ever seen a magical glow worm? It’s peak season in the UK for the little light-up bugs, so why not go on a safari? The UK glow worm survey lists good places to find nature’s dynamos – look out for their bright green light. There are some excellent organised walks if you’re not sure where to start. Find out more about the rare creatures here

EVENT Nude Musical Express
Coventry’s free, three-day Godiva Festival attracts great bands – this year’s headliners are The Stranglers and The Darkness – that parents and children alike will enjoy. It’s a great entry point for older kids to the joys of festival going – big enough to be exciting, but manageable and safe-feeling. There’s plenty on offer for younger children too – not only is there a family field, but how many other festivals can boast that they have their own petting farm? We also love the Make Space tent, where families can create art from recycled materials.

COOK and LEARN Mellow Yellow
Turmeric has been lauded for its health benefits, but it also makes for some great kitchen science experiments. You can make it fluoresce (glow under a UV light), and it can be used as an indicator for acids and alkalis. Find out more about the science here. While you’ve got your jar out, it’d be a shame to waste it all on experiments – why not try making ultra-yellow Southwestern Tofu Scramble or some yummy Golden Milk (turmeric tea).

EVENT Power To the People
Lewisham’s massive, free People’s Day festival in Mountsfield Park is one of south east London’s biggest yearly events. There are four arenas stacked with local talent, kids games and sports taster classes, a big top with aerial performances, BMX and motorbike displays, a pizza making area, and street theatre! The Green Area is a chilled place to hang, head there for a vintage family disco and balloon fun.
