EVENT Go Sea!
Brighton Festival is now in full swing. Guest director David Shrigley has an impish eye for the funny and bizarre elements of everyday life. Highlights include the immersive theatre of A House Repeated – an interactive performance game based in the Dome, great for older teenagers, Wot No Fish, a witty and warm one-man family show about the discovery of a relative’s great lost art, and There and Back Again, (pictured) a mix of theatre, puppetry and film that tells the story of Ulysses. Find the family-friendly line-up here

EVENT New Issue!
Our flower-themed new issue hits a newsagent near you this weekend. Find new ways to live plastic-free, methods to deal compassionately with tantrums, enjoy 30 wild days, and make alchemical drinks with edible flowers! Plus, bring on the summer – it’s our fun-packed festival guide! Buy your copy here, find it near you, or subscribe here and never miss an issue!

EVENT, LEARN, MAKE Well Dressed
The Well Dressing season has started in Derbyshire. Most towns and villages in the county Peak District display a natural mosaic creation next to their wells and water features over spring and summer, each dedicated with a carnival or mini festival. It’s a tradition thought to have been started either by the Romans or Celts to give thanks to spirits for water – find out more about it here and here. There’s a handy calendar of events here – why not pop along to one? Or perhaps you could try creating your own mosaic made out of natural materials next to your pond, hosepipe or paddling pool? There are some ideas for methods here and here

EVENT Milk No Sugar
A recent survey completed by over 1,400 mums, found that 50% of those questioned believe the most helpful breastfeeding advice and support they received came from local breastfeeding support groups, and family and friends. Join with other mothers this week at Medela’s Big Breastfeeding Cafe, as parents across the UK host meetings in houses, coffee shops or halls to celebrate and talk about all things breastfeeding-related, share experiences and support each other. May 15.

EVENT, COOK Vegging Out
National Vegetarian Week runs from May 14–20, and makes a great opportunity to try cutting out meat from your diet, or, if you’re already veggie, discovering some enticing new recipes, or hosting a veggie-themed event for friends, family or colleagues. If you want to join in, head online to download posters, stickers and flyers, and find delicious-tasting recipes. To celebrate, we’re revisiting some of our favourite veggie blogs for inspiration - try Green Kitchen Stories for easy-to-cook, family-friendly recipes, With Food and Love for gorgeously simple, seasonal ideas and Cookie and Kate for mouthwatering, clever dishes. Alternatively, bang-for-budget Jack Monroe’s vegan recipes are cheap, costed and delicious, while Jamie Oliver has a really great selection of veggie alternatives on his site.
