EVENT Sky High
Watch the skies above London fill with some of the most colourful, graceful flying objects in the world at the annual Kite Day on Streatham Common on Sunday. Expect displays from stunning stunters, including the jaw-dropping Flying Fish pairs team, watch human lift power kites or gape at the amazing Team Spectrum, one of whom can fly three kites at once. Bring your own kite and join in! Find instructions for making your own kite from a bin-bag and bamboo or more traditional flyers here Our guide to great kite-flying fun is here

RECIPES Petal Power
It’s the start of the elderflower season, and we can’t wait to go out with the kids, get a basket full of those creamy flowers back to our kitchen and start cooking. Of course, we can’t get away without making at least a few bottles of the nectar-like cordial (River Cottage have a reliably good take ) or the little more near-the-edge wine, but this year we’re going to try out some new recipes. Yotam Ottolenghi’s pickle, his tempura elderflower with creme fraiche ice-cream and cordial with added rose petals sound heavenly, while Jamie Oliver’s pistachio, yoghurt & elderflower cake sounds like it won’t last beyond tea-time in our house.

MAKE In a Spin
The worldwide craze for fidget spinners shows no signs of abating, with the triple-pronged whizzy wheels lurking in the school bags of most kids. Some have called for a ban on the toy, invented as a tool for helping kids who have problems with attention concentrate. However, this piece is a great counter-argument . If you’re uncomfortable with the idea of more plastic toys being brought into the world, why not try making your own? These DIY spinners are fun to create and a little more eco-friendly.

EVENT Brighton Rocks
