Time to branch out, it’s London Tree Week. Find out more about our woody friends at walks, cycles, hunts and art projects across the capital. Write haikus in Peckham Rye Park, go foraging in Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park, try ‘forest bathing’ mindfulness, or go for a tree-sure hunt in Peckham. Across London. If you’re not in London, why not go to your local park or back garden and give a tree a hug or be inspired by these tree-related play ideas or these experiments, learning ideas and art projects. COOK Nifty Nosh
We’ve been sharing delicious recipes, courtesy of The Mob Kitchen all week on The Green Parent website. Wales annual Hay Festival is a riot of words, with some of the world’s greatest authors bringing their writing to life in workshops, talks and events. We love the junior offshoot, Haydays, with its very own courtyard festival site, with a stage bursting with performances, a mess tent, and craft area. Plus, of course, appearances from some of the most colourful children’s authors in the country. May 26–June 5

LEARN Acid Test
This week, the Green Parent staff have been going chemistry crazy, doing the red cabbage indicator experiment. Find out what’s acid and what’s alkali by using a solution made from the deep purple leaves. We’ve tried it on soil samples, our drinking water, lemon juice, cola and (because we have a couple of very puerile six-year-olds) wee. A truly fun and informative activity to try, regardless of your age.
