RECIPE Sweet and Spicy

EVENT Grimm Times
One of Devon’s finest country houses, in the weeks leading up to Christmas, Killerton is transformed into a magical, glittering wonderland. This year, the rooms will be themed around the dark fairytales of the Brothers Grimm. Expect dazzling decor with a dark twist. Head out into the landscaped gardens to follow a Grimm-themed activity trail under twinkling lights.
MAKE Puffed Up
Puffy paint gives you double the creative fun – once when you make your creations, and secondly when you see them magically expand in a microwave. Make your own with three (four if you include water) really simple ingredients you probably have lying around the house. Let us know how you get on! LEARN Block Party
With Lego, everything really IS awesome. It’s enormous fun to play with; we’re regular visitors to the Lego ideas site, where fans vote for each others designs, and, if they garner enough support, their models go into production. It’s also a great tool for sneakily teaching number skills; there are some great ideas for little maths lessons here. We love their attempt to measure a guinea pig. There are many, many more ideas for lessons using the plastic bricks here – we’re going to try using mini figures to make stop-motion films this weekend!
EVENT A Design for Life
The London Design Museum reopens in its new home on High Street Kensington this weekend. There’s a party to celebrate, with free workshops, installations, talks and performances. Grab a balloon modelled on a 21st century design icon, make an abstract paper city, help build a wall of memories, take a walking tour around the building, and learn how to use bare conductive sensor technology to create your own soundscapes and audio. All free (excluding some exhibitions).
