INSPIRATION
I struggled with very sensitive and dry skin all my life and trying to find the right product even in specialist shops was difficult. About 20 years ago, I decided that I had enough of spending a fortune on products that did nothing or only very little for my skin and started to create my own creams and balms. I tested and experimented with different herbs, tinctures, infusions, oils, butters and waxes, botanical extracts, natural emulsifiers, and through trial and error worked out how to get the most benefits from combining certain ingredients. In 2012 I launched Gerlinde Naturals Vegan Skin Care, introducing a tried and certified skin care line which includes the phenomenal power of botanical ingredients, soothing, hydrating and balancing the skin.
BEST BEAUTY ADVICE
My mother had the most beautiful and soft skin, never wore makeup but wouldn’t go without using her Evening Primrose and Calendula moisturisers on a daily basis. She always told me to be very careful with your skin, always cover up in the sun, don’t get burned, eat healthily and use Evening Primrose and Calendula to keep your skin well moisturised and in good condition. I still remember the warm and familiar smell of Evening Primrose on her soft skin. How could I not embrace her advice? I am using both of these powerful ingredients in many of my products.
DESERT ISLAND PRODUCT
Definitely my Organic Whipped Shea Butter – I could not go without it at all! I use it on my face, especially in winter, my hands, heals, elbows, shins – it’s such a fabulously nourishing moisturiser and does the best job ever for my dry skin.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOUR BRAND?
I have just received the results from a brand survey. Customers would like to see a Cleansing Balm, followed closely by an Eye Cream, Day & Night Moisturiser and Body Oil. I have these four products currently in development.
TAKE ACTION AT HOME
• To reduce or completely avoid plastic waste, you could try and buy big soap refill packs and refill your dispensers or use bar soap. Personally I have converted back to bar soap many years ago and wouldn’t go back to liquid soap.
• Using bamboo tooth brushes reduces plastic waste
• Cleaning your bath and shower with vinegar and bicarb does an excellent job and is much gentler on the purse and environment.
