Our business, Lyonsleaf started 10 years ago when we started to make Calendula Cream from our home grown herbs and we haven’t looked back. Now, with our small team we grow, harvest and process our organic herbs and make them into our award winning Lyonsleaf products, all on the farm.
MY MORNING ROUTINE
Everyday is busy on the farm especially at this time of year when there is so much growing, breakfast is really important in setting us all up for the day so we enjoy a big bowl of porridge with nuts and mixed seeds including omega 3s and maple or agave syrup followed by fresh coffee. We do love coffee, but never before protein as our poor adrenals have suffered over the years and we dont drink it after noon (well, hardly ever). When there is time Vicky likes to fit it in some yoga or stretching which is really invigorating and in the summer best done outside, in reality there is never time and she’s found it’s better in the evening when relaxing. We now have a pilates ball to sit on when watching TV and pilates ball instead of office chairs which is quite lifechanging. Ben follows Wim Hof and does breathing exercises and has a cold shower every morning. Skincare plays an important part in our morning routine, we like to keep it simple though, to save time we use our Lyonsleaf Beauty Balm to oil cleanse and moisturise every morning. It is really quick and leaves our skin looking and feeling wonderful. (we both use it, Ben uses it after shaving). We also have school preparations in the morning and we try to do spellings or reading with our daughter, as we always find she is too tired after school.
MY FUTURE PLANS
We are very grateful to have made it through the last year with the support of our amazing customers and team, currently our business is run from part of our house and some converted farm buildings and we have run out of space! For the next year we are hoping to create a new area on the farm dedicated to making our products and running the business, this will give us the time and space to create some new Lyonsleaf products.
3 THINGS ABOUT LYONSLEAF
- We are proudly 100% natural. We do not use water in our products which means we can avoid synthetic preservatives (like parabens) which are necessary to prevent bacteria growing in the aqueous element of a product. We can also avoid emulsifiers which allow the oil and water to mix in a product. We have concerns that emulsifiers will inevitably disrupt the balance of water and lipids in your skin. We of course leave out artificial fragrance and colouring and our water free approach means every ingredient is active and working to nourish, repair and maintain your skin’s barrier sealing in moisture from within and from the air about you. It also means you only need use a tiny amount and our products come in much smaller pots using less resources to pack and ship them to you.
- Last year we were very excited to gain Organic status from the Soil Association for Jack’s Field (names after Ben’s Dad), where we grow our herbs.
- Our home and business runs on 100% renewable electricity including a large chunk from our 22KW of solar panels. We are always looking for new ways to reduce our environmental impact.
