My business makes cold process soaps, salves, balms and washes. All of my products use organic ingredients, local beeswax and honey, which is realy important to me. It actually started thanks to my daughter, who suffered with sore and irritated skin from birth. After working through all the chemical based products that did nothing for her skin we arrived at a mix of Shea, Coconut and our super ingredient Beeswax which had an almost immediate impact on her skin, if it works for babies imagine what it can do for adults.

MY MORNING ROUTINE
My daughter is first and foremost so we are up early and shape our morning routine around her, as a family we like to be active. Before dad goes to work I will make products and package up the previous days orders. My daughter loves to get involved to stick on the labels (she’s a good little helper). Living in the Tweed valley allows me to run and bike or walk from the doorstep, this is my way of switching off. My Daughter enjoys the outdoors too and comes on every adventure. We have taken every step we can to enable her to join in our adventures, hence why I’ve developed chamois cream and natural salves for chapped skin. One of the main reasons why I developed a cold pressed soap is my daughters sensitive skin. I have created a bar that not only soothes her skin but we also use it as a shampoo, soap and it is also used as a family facial and body wash which has cut down our waste and carbon footprint as well. Alongside the soap I have created a baby bee balm that replicates the best qualities of the soap but in a balm form for moisturising and soothing skin- you don’t really need anything else.

MY FUTURE PLANS
I am just finalising plans using organic ingredients, our local honey and beeswax as well as a new ingredient local heather, to create liquid washes, lotions and shampoo. The Packaging has been a challenge but all of the packaging will be aluminium so it can be recycled or reused in keeping with all of the other products that I currently produce.

3 THINGS ABOUT NATURAL LITTLE BEE

  1. After researching what benefits the skin I found out that beeswax and honey have amazing qualities which help the skin to stay hydrated. Which make it great for babies and sensitive skin. Beeswax is a humectant which allows your skin to absorb and retain moisture to keeps it from drying out. It is also packed with natural antioxidants as well as antimicrobial (this means that it inhibits the growth and reproduction of microorganisms) and antiseptic (Honey is an agent that destroys microbes, inhibits their growth preventing and even counteracts their pathogenic action). These super properties mean it acts as a protective barrier while allowing the skin to breathe, repair, soothe and nourish.
  2. I am aware that there can be ethical concerns about honey and beeswax which is why I work with local beekeepers and use wildflower honey and beeswax that are harvested sustainably. By doing this I can help to increase the local bee populations which I see as a greater good.
  3. Lastly all my packaging is compostable, biodegradable and uses a high proportion of recycled materials. I have shifted from Sellotape to a eco-friendly paper tape and am minimising the amount of Printing in all packaging preferring to use a biodegradable non-toxic inks.
