MY MORNING ROUTINE
With a family and running a business, there isn’t that much free time… I have a joyful Labrador so much of my time is taken with walking with her. I find the woodland here inspiring and have been thankful for long walks, especially during this last year.
MY FUTURE PLANS
To make Silvan Skincare become a more recognised, trusted brand in the sustainable/ethical/natural beauty world. I have some ideas on a couple of new products which I have started work on… watch this space!
5 THINGS ABOUT SILVAN SKINCARE
- I was a massage therapist looking for a product that added something to the hands-on work I was doing. There wasn’t anything that worked for me in the way I wanted - a long oil that soaked in quickly so that I could work deeply without sliding around. I also wanted the choice to select different oils for different needs, for example, inflammation, post-injury, scar work, stuck tight congested muscles, purely relaxation, etc.
- My stepmother taught me how to make creams and the techniques and subtleties of blending plant oils. The original Body Massage Oil range came from here and I subsequently discovered that the oils were a wonderful alternative to body lotion… and with some tweaks, I developed our beautiful face oils…the range grew in this ‘organic’ way to include face creams, balms and the lovely nourishing hand cream.
- My skincare is handmade (by me) in a production unit in Presteigne, Powys. I am committed to running my business locally, relying on support and guidance from people who work in the area and to continue to make my products in small batches with care.
- My ethos is to create gentle skincare products that are truly natural and don’t irritate or harm the body or the environment. Silvan Skincare is proudly vegan and cruelty-free. All of my products are certified as cruelty-free under the Leaping Bunny programme. The face creams, balms, lip balms and hand cream are registered with the Vegan Society. The brand represents elements that are important to me - gentle, effective, affordable, truly natural and sustainable skincare products. Silvan Skincare products are all inspired by the benefits of plant-based ingredients. They contain a range of botanical oils that nourish skin with a broad spectrum of vitamins, essential fatty acids and antioxidants. My packaging also takes its inspiration from nature with delicate illustrations by a fantastic local designer who draws and creates my beautiful labels. Many of the brand photos continue this natural style with flowers and leaves.
- Watching people make buying choices is really informative. I started off with two face creams, both with no aroma, pure and gentle! I soon discovered that people prefer skincare which has a lovely fragrance and this gave me the impetus to investigate the wonderful additional benefits essential oils can bring - which then opened up a whole new avenue for my range.
