The well-known brands using toxic preservatives and synthetics don’t do you any good, compared to the natural alternatives, but have you ever considered the difference between chemical SPF and natural SPF?

Many of my customers are unaware that conditions such as prickly heat are often caused not only by the sun, but also by the sun’s heat reacting with the toxic chemicals applied to the skin. Let’s address some of the questions you may have about the sun care you use.

What is the difference between Natural and Chemical SPF?

Natural SPF can be found in natural antioxidants, prebiotics and omega fatty acids, vitamins and proteins. Chemical SPF is mostly made up of synthetics that are harmful to the skin due to their drying properties and reaction with the heat from the sun that causes more damage to the skin cells. They can contain mineral oils and silicones that form an unhealthy
synthetic barrier, the main cause of prickly heat! Natural SPF offers as much protection, is also water-repellent and nourishes whilst protecting.

Sun Factor- how high is enough?

Many of us needing as much protection as possible tend to go for the SPF50. Did you know that SPF50 only offers a 1% more protection of UVB light than SPF30? As an SPF30 Sun lotion protects you against 97% of UVB rays. SPF50 protects you against 98% of UVB. For your skin health it is far more important to apply sun lotions more regularly than to choose a higher factor.

Do you want to limit the ageing affect the sunrays can have on your skin?

Then choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen that covers both UVB (covers the burning aspect of the sun) and UVA (covers the aging affect the sun has on the skin). UVA especially causes damage to the deeper and underlying layers of the skin.

WHAT SUNCARE PRODUCTS ARE SAFE TO USE? The Green People sun care range I can highly recommend, Their certified organic and natural SPF ingredients mean that your tan is healthier as the organic ingredients feed your skin with vitamins A, C & E, Avocado and Marshmallow. The green tea and chamomile soothe the skin with an anti-inflammatory effect so really ideal for sensitive skins and the allergy prone. The anti-oxidant plant extracts like rosemary eliminate the free radicals that cause ageing and cell damage. Their best selling children’s sun lotion is a must have and has proven to protect against prickly heat and sensitive skins in babies and children!
