We want to encourage and inspire everyone to shop locally, to choose the shop family-owned businesses rather than global chains. There are good economic and environmental reasons for making this switch but we believe that one of the most powerful motivators is the effect that shopping locally has on wellbeing and our sense of community and connectedness. It is becoming commonplace in larger stores to do all your shopping without having to interact with another human being. We want to bring back the sense of place on our high streets and in our villages, we want to make buying groceries a chance to support small businesses, connect with neighbours and put something back into the local community.

Want to join us? Take a photo of you (or the shopkeeper) in your favourite local shop this week using #greenparentmag and #lovelocal. We’ll choose one person to win £100 cash to spend on goodies in their favourite store and a subscription to The Green Parent magazine.

Please share with your friends and family!
