can you help?
I’m contemplating getting the bread maker out- as the supermarket has nothing on the shelves, but gone to the cupboards and my dried yeast is out of date by a year!
can I use it? Will it make us I’ll? 0r just not rise?
I was going to just lift a recipe from my bread maker book as I’ve no idea about the chemistry involved-
anyone help?

wish I’d paid attention to the post about store cupboard stocks smile
thank you x

how badly out of date?

worst case scenario is it just won’t rise, or not as well. I mean, it won’t poison you or anything grin

Depending on the kind of yeast, you could try activating a sample first in some warm water.

TBH if it was me, I’d give it a go and chuck a bit extra yeast in. If its only just out of date and has been stored well odds are it will be fine.

It shouldn’t make you ill. It *may* not rise, or, especially if it’s a sealed container/sachets, it may be totally fine. Give it a go wink

I would give it a go, the worst thing that can happen is that it does not rise.

I’d use it too. In fact I think I used out of date dried goods regularly because my stock rotations skills are so poor. Never done us any harm wink

I had this a while ago. The packet was open & the bread was hopeless! If your packet’s not open, it’s worth a try. If it is open, I’m afraid I’d bin it & get some more.
