Sorry if TMI, but both my nipples are really sore all the time.  Its on both sides, and I don’t think its mastitis, I think it is pretty much down to how she feeds.  She latches on properly, but she likes to chew on me when teething, and normally has a very strong sucking reflex so I think they never really get chance to recover.  She sleeps from about six pm to seven am so you’d think I’d have long periods to recover, but it just ends up just as sore as soon as she feeds in the morning. Trying not to take pain killers, but by the early afternoon it is agony when she latches on.  Any ideas of something to soothe the pain at all?

I used bepanthen cream on my nipples when cracked and sore. I found that to be best. I also found breast pads made them sweaty and easily irritated. using the pads seemed to give a superficial but uncomfortable thrush irritation.
I would also work on discouraging the chewing; just remove the breast if you are happy she has fed and is now just hurting you.

Are they raw or cracked at all, or just sore? If the former, you could try lansinoh on them and lots of air (not the easiest or warmest thing to do). Could it be thrush at all? Might be worth getting checked. Have you tried a different feeding position to see if that eases it- maybe rugby ball style, or you lying propped on pillows with her tummy to tummy on top of you? Might change how strongly she sucks?
And hugs, because having sore nipples when breastfeeding sucks (sorry couldn’t resist the pun!) so hope you find a solution soon xx

They aren’t cracked at all at the moment - they were a bit when she went through a particularly bad teething period, but it was helping her feel better, she usually has teething toys, or a bit of calpol if really bad, but at that time they just weren’t helping, so I just gritted my teeth and let her do it.  Now though, they aren’t dry or cracked, just sore, sometimes I get a burning pain shooting up from them as well.  I’ve started trying to feed her sitting up, during the day I feed her just lying across my lap, if she wakes during the night, she feeds tummy to tummy.

Yep, it really sucks! lol

Burning shooting pain sounds very like thrush. Has Hannah got any white spots on her tongue at all, as it can pass between you both. I’d definitely get it check by the dr, as if it’s thrush a cream will clear it up quickly. x

I second that sounding a lot like thrush. I had it with no external symptoms at all, and the kids (both times) only had a tiny patch of white in their mouths. The liquid for them and cream for me cleared it up *very* quickly.

agree - the shooting pain sounds like a slight thrush infection xx
