We’re big Hallowe’en fans, and will be creating spooky things to decorate the house all half-term. We’ll be going out trick or treating on the night (it’s a big thing around Hastings), but I’d like to introduce my kids to some older customs. When I was a child, we’d play apple bobbing, doughnuts on a string (I know doughnuts are hardly traditional, but still!) and peeling an apple games (then throwing the peel over our shoulders to see what initial it formed – that’s who we’d marry. Are there any other fun traditions or games specific to Halloween or Samhuinn that you know of?
I have never celebrated Halloween so I can’t help you with ideas, sorry!
