Hi
Does anyone know if you can recycle light bulbs- old-style and energy-efficient ones?
Thanks
Gill

I read somewhere the other day you have to be really careful disposing of the new energy efficient bulbs as they have mercury in them? Apparently if you break one you have to leave the room for 15 mins as they give off toxic fumes  :o  I think you have to take them to your local municipal dump/recycling centre/whatever it's called these days, where they can dispose of them carefully, not sure about the old style ones though, good question Gill!

Do you live near an Ikea? They have recycling bins for lightbulbs.

If you put your post code in this website, it tells you what you can recycle in your local area. Most areas don't accept lightbulbs at their recycling centres, but you may be a lucky one.

Alternatively, I've seen many crafts that recycle them - mostly using the old style ones - not the energy saving twisted ones, although you could probably be creative with them too.

Or vases - http://www.espritcabane.com/recup/ampoules-vases.php   (in French but you can get the idea from the pictures)

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys

Does anyone else find that the energy saving versions of traditional lightbulbs are not as bright when at the same wattage?>

Definatly not as bright but you soon get used to them- the "normal" ones feel too bright now
