It is true that your surroundings can; inspire, elevate and nurture you, and this is true of where we live. Our picturesque area has been painted by Constable, featured on TV in Liar Liar and used by many artists including Rhianna who hired a state of the art studio on a retreat nearby. Home of the famous Maldon Salt company and used to cultivate native oysters since Roman times The Black Water Estuary in Essex has many treasures to explore.

Our family and the SKN-RG (skn-rg.com) laboratory are nestled in this gorgeous estuary. Our two beautiful children and much-loved dog love nothing more than running through the local fields closely followed by our children. As I sit here and write this, I can see for miles rollings cumulus clouds and the smell of sea salt lingering in the air. I remember the days of London packed tubes, cosmopolitan bars - all a distant memory through my lifetime and in these changing times.

It is not hard to see how anyone living in our environment wouldn’t be inspired to make a bold change. As an Expert Therapist in our SKN-RG clinic, I could see that my clients were looking for something very different from what was available. Yes they wanted the modern alternatives that give all the right signals in the realms of; clean, pure oh and not forgetting synthetic and plastic-free with all the correct validations (Vegan Society Approved, Certified Organic and Leaping Bunny Cruelty-Free).

But often when it comes to asking for these things, it comes with a compromise in the performance arena.

Touching upon our studies at University in 2008, we understood that botanical extraction had actually remained the same: using harsh heat, degrading cold processes and solvents. Our bold step was to create technology akin to ultrasound using light and sound waves to extract our botanicals. We were the first in the world to develop this technology, called Quanta® and in 2014, we won British Government Awards and local university awards for our unique technology. And that is the foundation of SKN-RG.

I can not stress the benefit of ferments and enzymes. Many years ago, several brands released AHAs and its close family members. There are newer far superior modern actives that give far better results without, causing sensitivity. My top favourite is Papaya Enzymes featured in our Evolution Diamond Blue Cleanser. Adored by dermatologists, Papaya Enzyme is exceptionally well suited to those with hypersensitivity. It also is a real lifesaver in reducing many current issues including mask-wearing by breakdown blocked pores blemishes and open pores without feeling harsh or over sensitised. I’m all for the benefits of Retinol but like thousands of women, I can’t tolerate the synthetic nature of it, nor the harshness and side effects. Our new plant retinol is called Bakuchiol Resin (not to be confused with the cheaper powder found in some products so watch out for that). Oh my - honestly the results are incredible - we teamed the Bakuchiol with our new Stress Less Technology which lowers Cortisol levels in the skin, and we called it The Matrix. It is my absolute daily go to, and I wouldn’t be without it – ever! I love a toner, and it’s top-secret, but we are working on a new type of toner which I have literally fallen in love with, all I can say is it’s not a water liquid it’s totally natural and organic and to die for! WAYS TO BE MORE SUSTAINABLE

Every day we make choices in our lives that affect our environment and our community. Reduce Reuse and Recycle may feel a bit retro, but it as necessary today as when the term was first coined. Everything we do and purchase has a knock-on effect from the materials used to what is inside. My biggest bug bear is companies that still use liquid plastics like copolymers co-vinyls and silicones as they are so small they can’t be filtered out and potentially end up in our food chain and so the cycle continues. When we designed our products and built our laboratory and unit, we did it from the perspective of longevity and “eco-quality” rather than fast food and making fast money, and we put performance before profits. We harvest water for our crops and gardens, we use solar power, we only use green electricity and we grow food.
