About

Nestled in a quiet wooded valley in rural Pembrokeshire, Nant-y-Cwm offers children aged 3-14 a truly alternative and nature-based education. We are a non-selective, non-denominational inclusive Steiner-Waldorf school where childhood is cherished and protected. At Nant-y-Cwm we aim to prepare our students to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century with confidence, creativity and moral determination.

“Following a turbulent time in state education, my 13-year-old son found sanctuary, care, and support at Nant-y-Cwm Steiner School…his transformation at Nant-y-Cwm was incredible as we watched him build his confidence and re-engage in a love for learning.” Kathryn Robson Chief Executive Adult Learning Wales.

A Nature-Rich Education

At Nant-y-Cwm, we aim to foster an honour for the natural environment and inspire in our children a love and connection to nature. This is at the core of our values and everyday practice. Our newly constructed outdoor classroom, as well as our neighbouring woodland, allow for learning to take place outdoors throughout the year. This promotes curiosity, creativity, and a sense of wonder, while instilling environmental stewardship and a deep connection with the natural world.

Learning through head, heart and hands

The curriculum at Nant-y-Cwm centres on nurturing a child’s holistic development through age-appropriate, experiential learning. Teachers tailor the curriculum to meet the evolving physical, emotional and cognitive needs of students, based upon a deep knowledge of child development. In our small class sizes, children are known and valued by staff and are engaged in their learning through art, music, craft, movement and drama.

What distinguishes our pupils?
