This bold, bright and brilliant book delves underground, discovering what worms do all day (and night), exploring a wonderful world of microbes, plant roots and creepy crawlies, and revealing the crucial role they all play in making soil just right for plants to grow.

This is a lift-the-flap question and answer factual book in the style that Usborne is known for. It’s a board book, suitable for younger readers from age 2 upwards. It has a focus question on each page, such as 'Do farms need worms?' and 'Why is healthy soil so important?' with additional questions related to the theme throughout the two-page spread. Arthur enjoyed this a lot. The drawings on each page are also very interesting and colourful, and provide more context to the text on the flaps. Amy N

This is a colourful journal that supports children and young people in developing a better understanding of their emotions and how to regulate them. One of the great things about this journal is that it teaches young people about some of the physical aspects of emotions, including the nervous system and what is going on in their bodies and brains during different emotional situations. Amelie did enjoy this journal, and enjoyed doing some of the activities such as the yoga positions and the mindful colouring. However, I would probably save it until she is a bit older, probably age 10+. Amy N

As a family who awaits the arrival of butterflies in our garden when they lay their eggs on our nasturtiums every year, this story was right up our street. The main butterfly in this book is the Cabbage White, and they are the ones we observe every year. The interesting and engaging story teaches and delights as you go through and it is definitely a book you'd want on your shelves. We loved the informational aspects of the story and the facts in the back. It's a keeper for sure. Emma B

Sophie and Shona loved this wonderful book so much! It’s like a journey through the year, looking at each of the Celtic festivals, like Yule and Imbolc. We all loved looking at each page of detailed illustration and learnt lots too. I like the suggested rituals for each season – they are simple and easy to fit into family life. We’ll be using this to support our home education plan through the year and I’d definitely buy this book as a gift. Emma M

I absolutely loved this book. It’s gorgeous, the illustrations are so detailed, beautiful and pleasing, the hardback cover features metallic elements which adds a high quality finish. There's quite a lot of text but not much action, this book is more like an encyclopedia of plants, flowers and trees with a bit of story in between. I would absolutely buy it as a gift for a child (perhaps age 5+) who is into exploring the outdoors. Maria S

A lovely story that introduced us to the animals who live in the polar regions. Sophie took this book off straight away to begin drawing the animals inside. The illustrations are certainly inspiring and the text is light and informative, so it appealed to both my daughters. I’ve taken a look at the other books in this series (Coral Reefs and Rainforest) as I think they’ll make a great addition to our family bookshelf. Emma M
