Pastoral care, community and kindness run through everything we do, creating an environment where young people are known, understood and celebrated for who they are.

St Chris is, and has always been, more than a school. Since our founding in 1915, we have been a community, one that values integrity, trust, respect and service to others. Here, students learn from their very first day that kindness matters, that responsibility is shared, and that their voices are heard. These lessons extend beyond the classroom: whether through fundraising for local and international charities, pioneering environmental projects, or volunteering in the wider community, students are encouraged to make a genuine difference.

A Progressive Heritage

From its earliest days, St Chris has been progressive in outlook. Where others demanded silence, we listened. Where others focused only on outcomes, we valued the journey of learning itself. That is why our approach continues to emphasise creativity, curiosity and collaboration alongside academic achievement.

We believe that excellence should be relevant, not excellence measured against outdated standards, but excellence that prepares our students for the modern world. This means developing resilience, empathy, problem-solving, and the courage to innovate. It also means giving young people time: time to learn, time to grow, and time to flourish.

'What matters is not the activity itself, but the confidence, joy and sense of achievement it brings'

More Than the Classroom

Life at St Chris extends far beyond lessons. Students are encouraged to discover the richness of the human experience through sport, drama, music, art, science, technology and more. What matters is not the activity itself, but the confidence, joy and sense of achievement it brings. We want our young people to be adventurous, to try, to fail, to try again – and to keep learning throughout their lives.

A Caring, Inclusive Community

St Chris is proudly diverse, welcoming families from Hertfordshire, London, across the UK and around the world. This breadth of experience enriches our community, helping students to see different perspectives and develop a deep understanding of the world they will help to shape.

Every student is supported by an Adviser, a trusted adult who walks alongside them throughout their school journey. Advisers are there to listen, to advocate, to challenge and to guide, ensuring each child has someone to turn to, both in times of celebration and in times of need. Excellent pastoral care is at the heart of St Chris, enabling our young people to be ambitious and adventurous, while feeling safe and supported.

We also take barriers away where they are unnecessary. Students and staff are known by their first names, uniforms are replaced by comfortable dress, and relationships are built on honesty and mutual respect. These things may seem small, but they matter, they signal that everyone is free to be themselves.

See for Yourself
