Hello,
Happy nearly weekend.
I’m just back from London with Iris; we went up to the Natural History Museum with a group of friends, as one of our friends, Michael Kennard was giving a talk about the magic and importance of soil.
You can check out Michael’s events here - book on a Compost Disneyland tour!
We've had some delicious days out with friends this week - one afternoon was spent hanging out amongst the hornbeam trees, with butterflies and dragonflies flitting through the dappled sunlight. The symbolism of hornbeam is confidence and open-heartedness.
I went to see the film Lollipop with my sister earlier in the week, and it reminded me to seek joy everywhere.
Oh, just a mo - pause reading and find out where you can see this film near you - it's the most mind-blowing, beautiful, heart-wrenching film about motherhood I think I've ever seen.
I cried for days after watching it. And we were treated to a Q&A with the director afterwards. Daisy-Mae Hudson is a compassionate, fierce queen of a woman!
All booked?
Good, drop me a line and let me know your thoughts after you've seen it.
Here’s What Else We’ve Been Up To:
Getting Inspired by Degree Students
I went to my middle daughter’s degree show last week and it was AMAZING. Her designs are eye-poppingly cool and her fellow fashion graduates had made awesome pieces, and textile collections too.
We also explored the Illustration, Photography and Graphic Design shows. The final pieces by the graduates of Illustration were brilliant.
Some of my favourites were:
Izzy Poulter for her brilliant drawing of homes and daily life - with plenty of cats! Find her at @izzy.illustrates. She makes a zine about breakfast, too.
Ripley Gosling, who paints dreamy watercolours, makes jewellery and has a children's book out called Adrift, about a tiny Columbus crab and who overcomes a great challenge. The story looks at the issue of plastic waste in the ocean and is completely pictorial, so you can narrate it how you choose.
Amelia Dunham for her portraits and botanical drawings - check out @itsybitsyamelia.
Katie Chadwick has also made a children's book as part of her final module - The Search for the Perfect Pet is illustrated with gorgeous snuggly animals. Find her at @katieechadwick
Kizzie-Mai Lightburn-Jones is a ceramicist and illustrator. We were so taken with their amazing queer ceramics. Sooo cool!
