Modern life keeps us on the back foot – busy, juggling and uprooted. But it’s only when we slow, still and listen, that we remember the wholeness at our core says Eminé Kali Rushton

A couple of years ago, I had a bit of a ‘vision’. An image of myself, wintering in a new way. I imagined beginning a new year with a blank diary, forgoing all instincts to fill it. I could feel, quite viscerally, the sensation of space within me… of not knowing what a day might hold; of weeks ahead, as yet unwritten. Out of this feeling, came The WholeWomxn Way, a 12 week mentored container and journey through the season, with a weekly circle for rest and reflection, Yoga Nidra, Somatic Movement and Sound Healing.

I was determined to create a ‘holding ’ for nourishment. For rest. For stillness. A space where I could process and regulate. And through winter, for the most part, I managed it. Managed to hold the busy-ness of life at bay. Managed early nights with delicious sound baths and Thursday mornings with an hour of Somatic Movement.

I read, a lot… old favourites, some from childhood, like Tamora Pierce’s brilliant ‘In the Hand of the Goddess’ series. I went to bed early, holding that sacred hour, or two, just for myself, after the kids were tucked up and all of the day’s work had been put to bed.

But, as is naturally the way, with the advent of spring and then the fulsome tumble into summer, it can feel as though everyone and everything seems to wake up and run out into the world. However much we may want to steady our pace and heed our needs, it’s so easy to get caught up in the busy, buzzing forward motion of the season.
