Sweet Souls
Traditionally celebrated on November 1st and 2nd, and most widely observed in Mexico, Día de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead festival is all about gathering to remember friends and family members who have died. It’s a joyous, upbeat celebration, as participants tell funny stories about those who have left this world. Head to Camden Market to join a celebration with live music, mariachi bands, dance and Catrinas parades. Plus crafting and sugar skulls!

At Tate Modern, there’s a day of music, making, remembrance and celebration to tie in with the gallery’s Frida Kahlo exhibition. Join a procession, a collaborative ofrenda and community workshops!
Why not gather with your family to remember your most missed friends and relatives? You might like to make an altar with marigolds, tissue paper ‘papel picado’ (find out how to make it here), candles, water, photographs and marigolds.
Reely Good
This year’s Into Film festival combines two of our favourite things; reading and filmmaking. The annual, UK-wide Into Film Festival is a free celebration of film aimed at 5-19 year-olds, this year is also supporting the National Year of Reading. There are thousands of free screenings, previews and interactive Q&A sessions with industry professionals, inspiring young people to watch, understand and make films in new and creative ways. Find a screening near you; previews of Ray Gunn and Merry Christmas Aubrey Flint to animations for toddlers and showings of older favourites. Tickets always disappear fast, so be speedy.
