Shifting Sands
September is a great time to visit the beach. There’s still a bit of sun (particularly this year), but the crowds have gone. Make the most of low autumnal tides and vast expanses of sand; take kites to fly, go rock pooling and try creating some beachy sand art. Tiny children can use soft biscuit cutters to create patterns in damp sand, or help create a sandcastle that will see off the fiercest of enemies; English Heritage have some great tips here. Older children and teens might even attempt some more complex sand sculpting; be inspired by this incredible octopus!
Bayeux Watch
The Bayeux Tapestry is finally on view in the UK this month. Have you got tickets? Not to worry if not, it's easy to create your own as a family with a long roll of paper and paint, pens or pencils. Be inspired by the original, or create a long artwork commemorating an historical event of your choice. Or perhaps you'll be inspired by something closer to home; your family tree, a school class or a depiction of your home city, town or village. No paper or space?
